Suikhent Mountain
Mandakh
Suikhent is located in Mandakh soum of Dornogovi Province, near the border with Khanbogd soum. It is a naturally scenic area known for its fossilized wood, which is relatively rare in Mongolia. Although the fossilized wood remnants in Suikhent are small in quantity, their extraction and transport to provincial and soum centers have increased in recent years, leading to a depletion of resources. In response, 4,830 hectares of land were placed under state protection as a heritage site by Resolution No. 43 of the State Great Khural in 1996. The paleontological heritage sites of Suikhent in Mandakh soum and Ergilyn Zoo in Khatanbulag soum, Dornogovi Province, were included in the list of immovable historical and cultural monuments by a Mongolian government resolution dated May 14, 2008, based on recommendations from professional organizations. The protected area boundaries were officially approved by Government Resolution No. 414 in 2013 and further designated under Government Resolution No. 13 on January 8, 2020.
